We are very excited to share the pre-release of two new books, The Healing Power of Water and Martha’s Vineyard. Both books are available for pre-purchase in our store by clicking here.

The Healing Power of Water

The most precious natural resource on our planet, water has the power to soothe, hydrate, and heal. World-renowned film photographer Michael Kahn invites us into this meditative realm with more than 60 black-and-white images of pristine waters in North America, Italy, and England, capturing the mists, movement, and quiet depths. He collects his images on traditional black-and-white film and produces luminous silver gelatin prints in his darkroom. The warmly toned photographs, printed in tritone, are interspersed with inspirational quotes that reveal the deep spiritual connection we have with water, and its restorative power.

8×8”, 104 pages, $24.99 signed, March 2022 Release

Martha’s Vineyard

In over 60 handmade, black-and-white photographs, renowned film photographer Michael Kahn renders Martha’s Vineyard beachscapes in exquisite detail. Produced in his darkroom, these masterful, curated images depict the diversity and intense beauty of this enchanting island. Scenes of Edgartown, South Beach, Zack’s Cliffs, and other locations are interspersed with inspirational quotes and poetry. The warm, tritone-printed images represent the artist’s 22 years of work using a 1950s camera to capture the area’s sculpted beaches on traditional film, and producing the images as luminous silver gelatin prints.

8×8”, 112 pages, $24.99 signed, March 2022 Release

Michael is working on a new series of glacial erratic photographs. We hope that you enjoy these new photographs from the beautiful coast of Maine.

Passage

Next Time

Next time what I’d do is look at
the earth before saying anything. I’d stop
just before going into a house
and be an emperor for a minute
and listen better to the wind
or to the air being still.
When anyone talked to me, whether
blame or praise or just passing time,
I’d watch the face, how the mouth
has to work, and see any strain, any
sign of what lifted the voice.

And for all, I’d know more — the earth
bracing itself and soaring, the air
finding every leaf and feather over
forest and water, and for every person
the body glowing inside the clothes
like a light.

WoodenBoat School Waterfront

Michael is very excited to announce that he will be teaching a course titled “Marine and Seascape Photography” August 4-10 2019 at the WoodenBoat School in Brooklin Maine. Shooting black-and-white photographs is in many ways different than shooting in color. There is much more contrast in black-and-white. Shapes and shades become more important. Each day, with guidance from your instructor, internationally renowned photographer Michael Kahn, you’ll learn to capture images using the building blocks for successful black-and-white photography–texture, tonal contrast, shape, form, pattern, and lighting. The coast of Maine is abundant with unlimited strong photographic opportunities and will provide a wealth of photogenic material.

Registration opens on January 2nd. Click here for more info.
